Martin County Fire Rescue is currently accepting applications for Firefighter EMT beginning April 15, 2021, and closing at midnight on May 22, 2021. Firefighter Paramedics are preferred.

This position requires applicants have a valid IAFF approved CPAT (Candidate Physical Ability Test) within the last 12 months.

Under the direction of the Chain of Command and other authorized Fire Rescue Supervisors, the person in this position provides responsible work in basic pre-hospital emergency care and fire suppression within the Department of Fire Rescue.

In the event of a natural or man-made disaster that may threaten the area, the employee will be required to perform emergency duties as directed.

Essential Duties / Responsibilities & KSA`s

Drive fire apparatus and ambulances to and from emergency medical responses, fires and other emergencies.
Operate pumps, aerial ladders and truck and engine controls and accessories
Perform emergency medical and firefighting activities and duties, as required.
Conduct regular checks of apparatus and equipment to ensure adequacy of equipment and proper operation.
Carry out routine station duties, including participation in regularly scheduled drills and training sessions.
Maintain records and submit reports, as required.
Perform basic pre-hospital emergency medical care in accordance with current Martin County Emergency Medical Service BLS treatment protocols.
Ensure that all first aid supplies and life sustaining equipment are maintained and operational at all times; maintain first aid equipment and supplies up to date; handle bills and presentations; operate radio enroute to emergency scene; assist in lifting patient into and out of emergency vehicle or stretcher. Set up I.V. solutions, monitor I.V. lines, apply EKG, etc.

Knowledge of County streets, hydrants, standpipes, sprinkler systems and buildings. Knowledge of basic pre-hospital care and the use of life sustaining practices and procedures. Knowledge of principles and functions of all firefighting equipment used in the department. Knowledge of department`s Standard Operation Procedures (S.O.P.), medical treatment protocols, and regulations. Knowledge and skill in driving and operating fire apparatus, ambulance and other emergency vehicles. Knowledge of advanced first aid and the use of the sustaining practices and procedures.
Ability to communicate with people calmly and efficiently. Ability to work as part of a team. Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions. Ability to operate and maintain ALS, BLS, fire, and telemetry equipment.
Physical strength and agility sufficient to handle medical and fire emergencies.
Knowledge of Martin County Emergency Medical Service BLS treatment protocols. Ability to perform Emergency Medical Technician Skills.
Must pass a licensed CPAT within the last twelve (12) months.

Education and Experience
Graduation from high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma.

Must meet Florida State Fire Standard Council minimum requirements.

Additional qualifying education and/or experience which provide the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities may be substituted one for the other on a year for year basis.

Must possess a valid Florida Driver`s License

1. Valid Florida State Firefighter Certificate of Compliance issued from the Division of State Fire Marshal

2. Valid State of Florida (Department of Health) EMT Certification or State of Florida (Department of Health) Paramedic Certification

3. Documentation of completion, within the prior 12 calendar months, of a current IAFF approved Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) only

4. Emergency Vehicle Operators Course (EVOC) Certificate ? proof of minimum 16 hour

5. Current BLS for Health Care Providers (CPR & AED card): For both Firefighter EMT and Paramedic

6. Advanced Cardiac Life Support Card (ACLS): For Paramedic applicants only
